Headspace Application: Meditation for beginners
" Eat healthy! Exercise! Do not eat junk food! Go to the gym!” These are typical sayings that we often hear on a daily basis. Obviously, nutrition and exercising are 2 key elements in living a healthy lifestyle. However, we forget that rest and recovery also play an important role. Rarely are we being told to slow down and relax a little.
Many of our clients at VSquare have very busy schedules. They are stressed, they feel anxious, they have a thousand things going through their minds. If you have been a member at our studio for a few years, your coaches may have asked you to lay on your back on the foam roller for a few minutes and exercise your breathing. This exercise is actually a technique use for relaxation. We ask you to take deep breaths at the level of the abdomen (not chest level) and to exhale slowly. Hence, we want you to get used to breathing in a calm & proper way. We need to learn how to slow down a little, allow our body and our brain to rest and relax during our day. Meditation is a great way to relax, which will guide the brain to a better mental health and a zen state of mind.
For those of you who do not know where to start meditating, let me introduce you to Headspace, a user-friendly application for meditation! With back to school, the beginning of varsity rugby and work, I felt like I was not allowing enough time for my body to relax. I found Headspace a few days ago and I already love this app! It allows me to concentrate on my breathing and to calm myself for only a few minutes a day. You can choose between sessions of 3, 5 or 10 minutes. You can also find extra relaxation exercises called "minis" that last just 1 - 3 minutes. The app can be found on App Store or Google Play for free, with the option to purchase additional banks of exercises. I strongly advise the use of Headspace in your daily routine!
